NARRATIVE MAP OF THE SCHWEDENPLATZ IN VIENNA

The square is based in the center of the Vienna. It is an important traffic junction. First step of the research was series of visits of the square. As a result of this experience was created the narrative map of the area. The subjective perception was implement into the collage. On the series of the image we can see step by step of the manipulation with the images to the final narrative map.

My own perception of the area is supported by the video illustrating the atmosphere of the square. The video shows different layers of a movement of cars, buses, bikes, other public transports and pedestrians with its different speed. We can see the prevailing left - right movement together with its rhythm. The rhythm is mainly illustrated by its acoustic atmosphere.
The first part of the video demonstrates the different perception between the movement in the layer to see the movement of the layers. All those factors are brought to its extreme. The second part is an simple collage made by its mirroring. We perceive the moving layers and the composition of the static elements as an building, times to time pedestrians, cars, trams.

RESEARCH PROJECT - THE AKH - HOSPITAL IN VIENNA

LOST IN SAMENESS

The research was concentrate on the building of the new AKH, which is seen through the human eyes perception as "a labyrint of corridors". The main issue was to understand the "megastructure" and the transfer process in its depths.

To find a way to read the complex building, I used book "Learning from Las Vegas" by Robert Venturi and Denise Scott Brown published 1972. Las Vegas is not the subject of the book. The symbolism of architectural form is. The special approach to architecture of communication over space, achieved through style and signs. The key elements of my research were the navigation system of the people in these spaces. But what is wrong with the space?

The whole hospital is designed as highly sophisticated system of complex infrastructure, including transport of various liquids, sanitary goods in containers... the principle was how to quickly and easy move the case from point A to point B. In the contradiction, we can`t talk about its impact on the orientation of patients, students and others.

The space are created by prefabricated panels, seats, ceiling, doors, etc. After thousands of same door behind which is another hall, or a large staircase, or perhaps a library or anything? The sameness absorbs small differences and reject our attention to orientated ourself in the spaces. We are entirely depend on the signs and symbols. People are like a "blind sheep" walking and waiting for a sign and turn.
Moreover, it is clear that the organization of the circulation is confusion and not all the sites are well marked. As a result some places are easily overlooked or not used because of missing guidelines.

The mapping used in the 5 floor, which is the entrance level is considered as a representative of situation in the hospital. The method is used to refer about places that are bewilderingly sign. Few example of the specific location. The North street is not that used. The large staircase is badly sign, and one could not be sure where to get by it. The special location are known by the users – library, study spaces. The pharmacy need to have yellow food print in the floor that patients are not afraid to go in, etc.

ORF CENTRUM - NEW MEDIA SCHOOL

UNDESIRED SOLITUDE -  THE ORF - MODERNISM MONUMENT IN VIENNA FROM ROLAND RAINER

"If you want to dissect the ORF, you must first cut the skin!" What is the future of monument such as ORF? The extensive and dissected complex determines the whole development of the Küniglberg in Vienna. What is the relationship with its surrounding?

From the very beginning, I was astonished by the quiant wall, which isolates the entire area of the broadcast station. There are only tree gates. To attain the main entry level, we have to get over the 120 meters long ramp designed for cars. The most critical paradoxes occur the space between the wall and ORF. This creates loose spaces that are almost unused. On closer examination of history, we will find that in the original design, the wall was not planned. The subtle front facade was not hidden behind the high wall. In the past, a built barrier was certainly justified, but with a project that brings a new program as a New Media School, the situation requires a rethink, ORF versus the public and neighborhoods.

The location, I have chosen, is interesting from several aspects. The crucial is the position on the edge of the site, close to the semi-public rooms as restaurant, café, café terrace, entry for visitors and last but not least the biggest Studio 1 for TV shows. The new program generates changes and uses the full potential of the previously blind spot. It creates new entry area directly from the street level. Regrouping and reprogramming of space arise from the original labyrinth structure by adding, deleting, postponement and adding...

I work with the space to rediscover and extend the crucial potential of the space. For me it is absolutely crucial not to look at ORF as untouchable building and to yoke it together with the ground. The New Media School is the tool to do it...

shortly about  modernism: Using rational, scientific, logical means to know the world. Optimism that we can understand and control an objective world. There is an absolute, universal truth that we can understand through rationalism and logic. Humans are material machines. We live in a purely physical world. Nothing exists beyond what our senses perceive...
